Engine Starting - Before Starting the Engine

~1min read

• Check the area under the vehicle for leaks.
• Make sure all windows and lights are clean.
• Inspect the tires for damage, correct air pressure, and foreign objects in the tread.
• Adjust the seat and head restraint positions.
• Adjust the interior and exterior mirrors.
• Fasten your seat belt and make sure all passengers fasten theirs.
• When the ignition is switched on, check the operation of the warning lamps and indicators on the instrument panel.
• Periodically, for example when refueling, perform checks in accordance with the maintenance procedures specified in this manual.

• Do not operate the starter continuously for more than 15 seconds.
• If the engine does not start, wait 10 seconds before trying again.

This will prevent starter damage.

• Do not let the engine run at high idle speed for more than 5 minutes.

Excessive temperature rise may damage the exhaust system.

If the engine is flooded with fuel during starting, slowly press the accelerator pedal fully down and, holding the pedal in this position, crank the engine for no more than 10 seconds. This removes excess fuel from the engine cylinders. If the engine starts, immediately release the accelerator pedal and let the engine idle for some time before driving. If the engine does not start with the pedal fully depressed, release the accelerator pedal and start the engine normally.
