Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)
The Anti-lock Braking System is an advanced electronically controlled brake system. This system maintains vehicle steerability when obstacles are encountered during sudden or emergency braking and minimizes stopping distance on slippery roads.
When the ignition is turned on, the ABS warning light illuminates for 3 seconds.
If this warning light does not go off afterward or illuminates while driving, this indicates a malfunction in the ABS. Immediately contact an authorized Chevrolet dealer.
Refer to "ABS WARNING LIGHT" .
The ABS operates by measuring the speed of each wheel during braking. When a tendency toward wheel lock is detected, the computer independently controls the brake of each wheel, both front and rear. Normally, when the ABS is operating, a slight vibration accompanied by a small noise is transmitted to the brake pedal.
The presence of ABS does not change the reaction time required to apply the brakes and does not always shorten the stopping distance. • Even with ABS, always maintain a safe following distance that allows for safe braking.
• Do not risk your life by performing dangerous driving maneuvers.
Braking with ABS engaged: Regardless of road conditions, do not pump the brake pedal. Press and hold the brake pedal firmly, and the ABS will do the rest.
If the brake warning light and the ABS warning light are illuminated at the same time, this indicates a malfunction in the brake system.
• Immediately contact an authorized Chevrolet dealer to have the brake system inspected.
