Driving Recommendations - Hazardous Driving Conditions

~1min read

When driving in hazardous conditions involving water, snow, ice, mud, sand, or similar, observe the following rules:

• Reduce vehicle speed and be extremely attentive, increasing the braking distance.
• Avoid sudden changes of direction when braking, maneuvering, and accelerating.
• For a vehicle without ABS: apply the brake pedal with light, variable pressure (press and release) until the vehicle stops. For a vehicle with ABS: if an obstacle appears in the path, apply firm pressure to the brake pedal.
• If the vehicle is stuck in snow, mud, or sand, shift to second gear to prevent front wheel spin.
• If the wheels spin on a road covered with ice, snow, or mud, use sand, snow chains, or other non-slip materials to improve front wheel traction with the road surface. Refer to "FREEING A STUCK VEHICLE BY ROCKING".
