Driving Tips - Engine Braking
In this manual: Driving the Vehicle
~1min read
To use engine braking effect on long downhill grades, do the following:
• For automatic transmission, if necessary, shift to range "3", "2" or "1".
Engine braking is most effective in range "1".
If you shift to range "1" at too high a speed, the automatic transmission will remain in the current gear until the vehicle slows down.
For normal engine braking, shift to range "3" or "2". To increase deceleration, shift to range "1".
• For manual transmission, shift down through the gears one at a time.
• Do not downshift the manual transmission by two or more gears at once.
This will prevent transmission damage or loss of control, as well as possible injury.
