Towing a Trailer - Important Information
TRAILER BRAKES
When using the brakes of a trailer/caravan, observe all instructions provided by its manufacturer. Do not make any modifications to the vehicle's brake system.
TRAILER LIGHTS
Make sure the trailer is equipped with lights that comply with state and regional requirements. Before starting to tow, always check the operation of all trailer lights.
TIRES
When towing a trailer, make sure the tire pressure is correct as specified on the tire placard on the driver's door pillar.
SAFETY CHAINS
Always connect the vehicle and trailer with safety chains. Cross the safety chains under the trailer tongue so that it will not drop to the road if it separates from the vehicle hitch.
Follow the trailer manufacturer's recommendations for attaching the safety chains.
Always leave enough slack to allow full turning of the vehicle. Safety chains must never touch the road.
BRAKE FLUID
Replace the brake fluid every 15,000 km under the following conditions.
• Regular operation of the vehicle with a trailer.
• Driving in hilly or mountainous terrain.
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID (gasoline 1.8 DOHC engine models only) When the vehicle is regularly operated with a trailer, replace the automatic transmission fluid every 60,000 km.
