Trailer Load
For correct trailer loading, it is necessary to know how the gross trailer weight and the tongue load are measured. Gross trailer weight is the total weight of the trailer and the cargo in the trailer. The gross weight of a fully loaded trailer can be measured on vehicle scales.
Tongue load is the vertical force acting on the vehicle's hitch from the trailer coupling of a fully loaded trailer, when the coupling is at the normal towing height. This load can be measured with a household scale used for weighing a person.
The weight of the loaded trailer (gross trailer weight) must not exceed the specified values.
The maximum permissible tongue load is 75 kg.
The permitted loaded trailer weight values are established for gradients up to 12%.
When a trailer is attached, the permissible rear axle load of the fully loaded towing vehicle (including passengers) must not be exceeded.
The gross vehicle weight with trailer must not exceed the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR).
The gross vehicle weight is the total weight of the vehicle, driver, passengers, luggage or cargo, together with the weight of the towing device and the tongue load.

The specified trailer weight values are established for altitudes up to 1000 m above sea level.
At altitudes above 1000 m, engine output may decrease, so in mountainous areas it may not be possible to fully use the permissible trailer load values.
• At altitudes above 1000 m, reduce the maximum permissible trailer load by 10% for each additional 1000 m.
Improper loading, crosswinds, passing heavy trucks, and bumpy roads may cause the trailer to sway or disconnect.
• Adjust the tongue load by distributing the cargo in the trailer.
• Weigh the loaded trailer separately and determine the tongue load.
• Check the applicable state or regional regulations for maximum permitted trailer weights.
