With an automatic transmission, the selector lever can be left in the selected range with the engine running. When stopped on a slope, apply the parking brake or press the brake pedal. Do not hold the vehicle in place by pressing the accelerator pedal.

During a long stop, for example in traffic jams or at railway crossings, stop the engine.

When parking the vehicle, move the shift lever to P (automatic transmission) or to neutral (manual transmission), apply the parking brake and remove the key from the ignition switch.
