Disassembly

PROCEDURE.

Remove the valves and valve springs.

Warning.

When disassembling the valve train, keep the parts grouped and, during assembly, install them strictly in their original positions. Otherwise the break-in of the parts will be disturbed.

When removing valves, protect the valve guides from

damage. If the valve stem has a mushroomed end, remove the excess metal with a file or abrasive stone. Do not drive the valve out of the guide with a hammer or drift.

Clean.

PROCEDURE.

Clean the valves of carbon and resinous deposits. Remove carbon with a wire brush, and

resinous deposits by soaking in carburetor cleaner. Warning:

To avoid injury when using power brushes, always wear safety goggles. Avoid inhaling vapors and

Do not scratch the valve stems with coarse wire brushes.
