When performing operations involving removal and installation of the timing belt,

cylinder head, camshaft or crankshaft, check the timing belt tension.

Inspection

PROCEDURE.

1. Turn the crankshaft by the sprocket bolt head so that the No. 1 piston is at 10° BTDC. Mark A on the crankshaft pulley

must align with pointer B on the timing belt rear cover (see Fig. Crankshaft Alignment Using Pulley Mark and Fig. Correct Angular Position of Camshaft).

2. The correct angular position of the camshaft is checked by aligning marks C and D, located on the camshaft sprocket and the timing belt rear cover respectively.
