Measure

PROCEDURE.

the clearance between the valve stem and guide. Two methods can be used for

measurement.

– Insert the valve into the guide. Lift the valve 3 mm off the seat and rock it from side to side; measure the lateral movement of the valve.

– Measure the inside diameter of the guide and the outside diameter of the valve stem.

Take the difference between the diameters.

Valve guide bores can be reamed to the next oversize repair size. Refer to Reaming the Guide Bores illustration. In this case, valves with an enlarged stem diameter must be used.
