PROCEDURE.

1. Remove the drive belts, air conditioning compressor, power steering pump,

generator..

2. Power steering pump hoses..

3. Turn the crankshaft by the timing gear bolt head so that the No. 1 piston is at 10° BTDC. The mark on the crankshaft pulley must align with the pointer on the timing belt rear cover (see Setting Crankshaft to Mark on Pulley figure).

4. Remove the bolts and the timing belt front cover..

5. Adjust the timing belt tension in the following sequence..

5a. Remove the three water pump mounting bolts 151..

5b. Set the adjusting lever in the center of the hole in the bracket, as shown

in the Belt Tensioner Adjustment figure. Lightly tighten the three water pump mounting bolts.

Warning.

To prevent the bracket and lever from rotating, insert a screwdriver into the hole..

5c. To correctly install the components, turn the crankshaft two full revolutions (with the three water pump mounting bolts removed).

5d. Turn the water pump housing counterclockwise while holding the lever pointer on the bracket mark..

5e. Tighten the water pump mounting bolts to 20–30 N·m.
