Lubrication System
GENERAL INFORMATION

Engine lubrication system
The forced lubrication system includes a full-flow oil filter and
a gear-type oil pump. The pump draws oil from the
oil pan through the pick-up strainer and supplies it to the
lubrication system through the oil filter. The engine is
equipped with a full-flow oil filter with a paper filter element.
The system has a filter bypass valve, through which oil flows to the
engine rubbing parts when the filter is clogged and its resistance increases. From the filter, oil is directed to the main oil gallery, from which the main bearing oil galleries branch off. The connecting rods have small
holes through which oil is sprayed onto the cylinder walls for
lubrication and onto the pistons for cooling. A vertical passage branches off the main oil gallery to supply oil to the camshaft housing. Oil
enters the central axial camshaft passage through a radial hole in the third journal and is distributed to the other journals. The vertical passage is connected to the upper longitudinal oil passage drilled from the left side
in the cylinder head. A relief valve is installed in the passage, which limits oil pressure in the cylinder head. Through the same passage, oil
is supplied to the hydraulic lash adjusters of the intake valves, and through an additional passage also to the hydraulic lash adjusters of the exhaust valves. The camshaft lobes are lubricated by oil supplied from the central passage through radial drillings in the
lobes.
