Removal and Installation of Intake Manifold - Upper Manifold

Perform this procedure only after the engine has completely cooled down.

PROCEDURE

1. Relieve the fuel system pressure (see Fuel and Exhaust Systems chapter).
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

If the vehicle's audio system is equipped with an anti-theft code, make sure you have the correct code to reactivate the audio system before disconnecting the battery!
3. Disconnect the air intake duct, throttle linkage, and all hoses and wiring from the throttle body (see Fuel and Exhaust Systems chapter). Plug the coolant hoses connected to the throttle body.

4. Remove all plastic covers from the intake manifold as equipped.

5. In the reverse of the sequence shown in the illustration, remove the mounting bolts and nuts and remove the manifold with the throttle body attached.
6. Before installing the upper manifold, thoroughly clean the mating surfaces of the lower manifold, removing all traces of the old gasket material and sealant. Wipe the surfaces with a rag dampened with acetone. Place a new gasket over the three studs on the lower manifold, then install the upper manifold and tighten the fasteners to the specified torque in the specified sequence. Check the coolant level and top up if necessary (see Maintenance and Tune-Up chapter).
