2. Remove the cover and carefully inspect the pump gears. If signs of wear or mechanical damage are found, replace the pump. Measure the pump operating clearances and compare the results with the Specifications.

3. Carefully scrape all traces of old sealant from the mating surfaces of the pump and the engine block. Take care not to damage the surfaces of the soft aluminum alloy components.
