Oil Pump Installation

~1min read

PROCEDURE

1. Replace the crankshaft seal (refer to Front Crankshaft Seal Replacement).

Before installing the new seal lip, lubricate it with multi-purpose grease.
2. Pack the internal cavities of the pump with petroleum jelly. Install the cover, apply sealant to the threads of the mounting screws, then install and tighten them in a diagonal sequence to the specified torque.
3. Thoroughly wipe all gasket surfaces with a rag moistened with acetone, completely removing all oil residue.
4. Lightly apply anaerobic sealant to the pump housing surface that mates with the block, and to the threaded portion of the mounting bolts. Do not overapply. Make sure the sealant does not block the oil passages or enter blind threaded holes. Assemble the components within five minutes after applying the sealant; otherwise, repeat the procedure. Be sure to replace the O-rings.
5. Make sure the flats on the pump drive gear engage with the matching flats on the crankshaft journal, then install the pump in its original position.
6. Install the mounting bolts and tighten them in a diagonal sequence to the specified torque.
7. Install the oil pick-up with a new O-ring and tighten its mounting bolts to the specified torque.
8. Install the remaining components in the reverse order of removal.
9. Wait approximately 20 minutes to allow the sealant to cure, then fill with fresh engine oil, start the engine and check for leaks. Measure the engine oil pressure.
10. Check the engine oil level.
