Description and Operation

Description

The ambient air temperature sensor (ATS), installed on the front module, detects the ambient air temperature. The ECM receives intake air and ambient air temperature data at the same time in order to accurately control the intake air volume supplied through the turbocharger. The electrical resistance of the thermistor decreases as temperature increases, and vice versa. This sensor has a negative temperature coefficient (NTC), and its resistance is inversely proportional to temperature.

Repair Procedures

Inspection

  1. Turn the ignition off.

  2. Disconnect the ATS connector.

  3. Measure the resistance between terminals 1 and 2 of the ATS.

  4. Make sure the resistance is within specification.

Removal

  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.

  2. Remove the front engine cover.

(Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Engine Room Cover")

  3. Disconnect the connector (A) and remove the ambient temperature sensor (B).

Installation

  1. Install in the reverse order of removal.
