Description and Operation

Description

Built into the intake manifold absolute pressure and intake air temperature sensor. The Intake Air Temperature Sensor (IATS) detects the temperature of the intake air.

Intake air temperature correction is used to calculate the air mass accurately, because air density depends on temperature. Therefore, the ECM uses not only the MAPS signal but also the IATS signal. This sensor is a Negative Temperature Coefficient (NTC) thermistor whose resistance decreases as temperature increases.

Repair Procedures

Inspection

  1. Turn the ignition off.

  2. Disconnect the IAT sensor connector.

  3. Measure the resistance between terminals 3 and 4 of the IAT sensor.

  4. Make sure the resistance is within specification.

Removal

  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.

  2. Remove the engine cover.

(Refer to Engine Mechanical System - Engine Cover)

  3. Disconnect the intake air temperature sensor connector (A).

  4. Remove the mounting bolts (B) and remove the sensor from the intake manifold.
