Description and Operation
Description
The Continuous Variable Valve Timing (CVVT) system advances or retards the timing of the intake and exhaust valves according to the ECM control signal, calculated from engine speed and load.
CVVT control provides valve overlap or underlap, which in turn improves fuel economy, reduces exhaust emissions (NOx, HC), and improves engine performance by reducing pumping losses, creating an internal exhaust gas recirculation effect, improving combustion stability, increasing volumetric efficiency, and increasing expansion work.
This system consists of the CVVT oil control valve (OCV), which supplies oil to or drains oil from the cam phaser according to the ECM pulse width modulation (PWM) control signal; the CVVT oil temperature sensor (OTS), which measures the engine oil temperature; and the cam phaser, which changes the camshaft phase using hydraulic pressure from the engine oil.
Engine oil flowing from the CVVT oil control valve changes the camshaft phase in the advance direction (intake advance / exhaust retard) or in the opposite direction (intake retard / exhaust advance) relative to engine rotation, by rotating the rotor connected to the camshaft inside the cam phaser.

Repair Procedures
Inspection
Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the OTS connector.
Remove the OTS.
After immersing the sensor thermistor in engine coolant, measure the resistance between OTS terminals 1 and 2.
Make sure the resistance is within specification.
Temperature [°C(°F)] Resistance (kOhm) -40(-40) 52,15 -20(-4) 16.25 0(32) 6,0 20(68) 2,45 40(104) 1.11 60(140) 0,54 80(176) 0,29
Removal
Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
Disconnect the transmission oil temperature sensor connector (A).
Remove the oil temperature sensor (B).

Installation
Install in the reverse order of removal.
Oil temperature sensor: 34.3–44 N·m
