Description and Operation

Description

Mounted on the intercooler inlet pipe is the RCV (Recirculation Control Valve). The solenoid valve controls the RCV actuator, which operates the bypass passage of the turbocharger compressor. When the throttle is closed while the engine is running at cruising speed (dumping), the turbocharger boost pressure rises rapidly. The pressure wave strikes the compressor blades, causing a chattering noise. To prevent this, the ECM opens the recirculation valve, which allows the excess boost pressure to be released back to the air cleaner side of the turbocharger compressor.

Repair Procedures

Inspection

  1. Turn the ignition off.

  2. Disconnect the RCV solenoid valve connector.

  3. Measure the resistance between terminals 1 and 2 of the valve.

  4. Make sure the resistance is within specification.

    Specification: 28.3–31.1 Ω [20 °C]

Removal

  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.

  2. Remove the RCV solenoid valve after disconnecting the connector (A) and the RCV hoses (B).

Installation

  1. Install in the reverse order of removal.
