Description and Operation

Description

The intake air temperature sensor (IATS), integrated in the MAP sensor, detects the temperature of the intake air.

To accurately calculate the intake air volume, air temperature is required, since air density changes with temperature. Therefore, the ECM uses both the MAP sensor signal and the IATS signal. The thermistor of this sensor has a negative temperature coefficient (NTC), and its resistance is inversely proportional to temperature.

TEST

  1. Turn the ignition off.

  2. Disconnect the IAT sensor connector.

  3. Measure the resistance between terminals 3 and 4 of the IAT sensor.

  4. Make sure the resistance is within specification.

expansion

  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.

  2. Disconnect the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor connector (A).

  3. Remove the MAP sensor (B) from the intake manifold by loosening the mounting screws.

MAP sensor mounting screw: 6.4~8.3 N·m

Installation

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
