operations such as removing the power unit from the vehicle and major overhaul of the cylinder head, cylinder block/crankcase, crankshaft and other engine components.

It provides guidance on preparing for and organizing major overhaul work and procuring spare parts, and describes in detail the procedures for removal, inspection, repair and installation of engine assemblies and components.

Starting with the next section, the description assumes that the engine has been removed from the vehicle. Repair procedures performed without removing the engine from the vehicle, as well as the removal and installation of external engine assemblies and components required for major overhaul, are described in the corresponding sections.

At the beginning of this subsection, all specifications required for inspection and major overhaul, whose procedures are described below, are provided.
