Cylinder Head
Disassembly
PROCEDURE
1. Remove the cylinder head (see subsection 3.1.1.11).
2. Remove the intake and exhaust manifolds, if not already removed.
3. Remove the rocker arms and adjusting shims.

4. Compress the first valve spring using the special tool and remove the valve keepers. Carefully release the valve spring, remove the spring retainer, spring and spring seat. Remove the valve stem seals from the valve guides.
5. To remove the retainer, lightly tap the tool with a soft-faced hammer.
6. Remove the valve from the combustion chamber side.
7. Store the valve together with its keepers, spring, spring retainer and spring seat. Note that valve N1 is located next to the front cover.
Assembly
PROCEDURE

1. Install the valve spring seat, dip the valve stem seal in fresh engine oil, and place it over the valve stem and guide.
2. Lubricate the valve stems with fresh engine oil and install the valves into their corresponding guides in the cylinder head, following the original installation order. New valves must be installed in the seats they were lapped to.

3. Install the spring onto the spring seat, oriented so that the tightly wound coils face down.

4. Install the spring retainer.

5. Compress the springs with the special tool and insert the keepers into the groove on the valve stem.
Warning: To hold the keepers in the valve grooves when removing the tool, coat the keepers with grease.
6. After all valves are installed, turn the cylinder head over and seat the valvetrain components by lightly tapping the valve stems through a wooden block with a hammer.
