3-Speed Automatic Transmission

3-Speed Automatic Transmission (Normal Driving Mode)
PROCEDURE
1. Start the engine (refer to subsection 1.6). The selector lever must be in the P or N position.
2. While holding the brake pedal with your foot, move the selector lever to the D position. In the D position, the transmission automatically selects the most suitable gear for driving conditions, such as normal level driving, driving uphill, towing, etc.
* Do not depress the accelerator pedal when shifting into a gear.
3. Release the parking brake and the brake pedal. Slowly depress the accelerator pedal and pull away smoothly.
Engine Braking
To use engine braking, downshift the transmission as follows.
If vehicle speed is below the maximum allowable speed for 2nd gear, move the lever to position "2". The transmission will shift into 2nd gear.
If vehicle speed is below the maximum allowable speed for position "L", move the lever to position "L". The transmission will shift into 1st gear and the braking effect will increase.
Maximum allowable speeds
In position "2" - 109 km/h
In position "L" - 63 km/h
* Use extreme caution when downshifting on slippery roads. An abrupt downshift may cause the vehicle to skid or the wheels to spin.
Do not overload the engine. Watch the tachometer and do not allow engine speed to enter the red zone. The maximum speed values for each lever position are given above.
Do not drive uphill for extended periods in lever position "2" or "L", otherwise the transmission will overheat and fail. When towing or climbing a grade, move the lever to position "D".
Reverse Driving
PROCEDURE
1. Bring the vehicle to a complete stop.
2. Depress the brake pedal and move the lever to position "R".
Do not move the lever to position "R" while the vehicle is moving.
Parking
PROCEDURE
1. Bring the vehicle to a complete stop.
2. Pull the parking brake lever fully up and apply the parking brake.
3. Depress the brake pedal and move the lever to position "P".
Warning
Never move the lever to position "P" while the vehicle is moving. Otherwise, serious damage and loss of vehicle control may result.
Driving Tips
Always keep your foot on the brake pedal while the engine is running to prevent the vehicle from creeping.
Do not try to hold the vehicle on a grade by lightly pressing the accelerator pedal, as the transmission may overheat. Use the foot brake and parking brake.
