Brakes
Tandem Master Cylinder Brake System
The vehicle is equipped with a dual-circuit hydraulic brake system with a tandem master cylinder. If one circuit fails, braking is performed by the other circuit, but the braking distance increases and greater force must be applied to the brake pedal. In addition, the brake warning lamp illuminates.
Do not drive with only one working circuit. Repair the failed hydraulic system immediately.
Brake Booster (Vacuum Assist)
Designed to increase the force on the master cylinder piston using vacuum created by the engine. If the engine stalls during driving, the brakes operate from pedal force alone. The booster retains vacuum, which may be enough for 1–2 brake applications, but no more.
* Do not keep pressing the brake pedal with the engine stalled. Each press reduces the remaining vacuum reserve.
Even if vacuum is completely lost, the brakes remain operational, but the force that must be applied to the pedal increases and the braking distance becomes longer.
Anti-lock Braking System (with warning light)
The anti-lock braking system is designed to release the wheels during sudden braking or braking on slippery road surfaces, improving vehicle controllability in such a critical situation.
The system begins to operate when vehicle speed reaches 10 km/h. Below 5 km/h, the anti-lock braking system stops operating.
Immediately after starting the engine or after the vehicle begins to move, clicking sounds may be heard from the engine compartment. These indicate that the ABS self-check has started and do not indicate a malfunction.
When the ABS is operating, you may feel pulsation in the brake pedal and hear noise. In this situation, simply keep the pedal depressed, applying slightly more force. Do not release and reapply the brake pedal.
Brake pedal pulsation caused by the ABS may indicate a dangerous road surface condition. Although the ABS improves vehicle controllability by design, still drive with caution, since the effectiveness of this system depends on a number of factors.
Braking effectiveness depends on tire grip on the road surface.
When cornering at high speed or making a sudden maneuver, the driver may not always be able to control the vehicle on certain road surfaces, even if the ABS is functioning properly.
Avoid driving at high speed on wet roads.
The anti-lock braking system cannot prevent hydroplaning and loss of contact with the road surface.
Always maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead. The braking distance of a vehicle equipped with ABS may exceed that of a vehicle without ABS in the following cases:
– when driving on uneven roads covered with gravel or snow;
– when driving with chains fitted to the wheels;
– when driving on rough roads or on sloped ruts.

Warning Light
The ABS warning light comes on when the ignition switch is turned to ON and goes off after approximately 3 seconds.
One of the following indications means that the components monitored by the light are faulty. In this case, have the vehicle inspected at an authorized service shop immediately:
– the light does not come on (as described above) or does not go off;
– the light comes on while driving.
Even if the ABS is faulty, the brakes will remain operational.
Brake Pad Wear Indicators
When the pad wear on disc brakes exceeds the limit, the wear indicator produces a squealing noise.
If a squeal or howling sound is heard while driving, contact an authorized service shop immediately to inspect or replace the brake pads.
Avoid long trips when the indicator is sounding. Driving for long distances with fully worn brake pads will cause rapid wear of the brake disc and increase the pedal force needed to maintain braking distance.
