Immobilizer System (Engine Start Code Recognition)
GENERAL INFORMATION
The immobilizer is an anti-theft system. When the ignition key is inserted into the lock, the transponder chip generates a coded signal, which is recognized by the vehicle's anti-theft system. The engine will start only if the transmitted coded signal fully matches the vehicle's identification code.

When the key is removed from the ignition switch, the identification code is automatically set. When the key for this vehicle is inserted into the ignition switch, the transmitted code cancels the anti-theft function that prevents engine starting. To make a new key at a Toyota dealer, the key number and the main key are required. Note that there is a limit to the number of keys that a Toyota dealer can make.
A homemade duplicate key cannot disable the anti-theft system or start the engine.
