Indicator Lights and Warning Signals
If the following indicator lights or warning buzzer come on, take the following actions:

If the parking brake is released, stop and check.

Stop and check.

Stop and check.

Contact a dealer service shop.

Refuel the tank.

Contact a dealer service shop.

Close all doors (including the rear door).

Contact a dealer service shop immediately.

Drain the water.

Turn off the headlights.
Brake System Warning Light
Reminds you to release the parking brake.
Make sure the parking brake is fully released. The light goes off after release.
Low brake fluid level in the reservoir, or low vacuum (on vehicles with a diesel engine).
If the light comes on and stays on while driving, reduce speed and stop smoothly on the shoulder. Do not brake suddenly. The light indicates a brake system malfunction. Check the fluid level in the reservoir, which is visible through the transparent wall.
Make sure the parking brake is fully released.
If the brake fluid level has dropped: Check the brakes in a safe place. If the brakes still work normally, drive carefully to the nearest service station or repair shop.
If the brakes are faulty, tow the vehicle for repair (towing procedure is described in subsection 1.6.8).
* Continuing to drive with a low brake fluid level is dangerous.
If the brake fluid level is normal:
VEHICLES WITH GASOLINE ENGINE
Have the warning system checked at a service shop.
VEHICLES WITH DIESEL ENGINE
On these vehicles, the warning system or the vacuum brake booster may be faulty.
Have the warning system and the vacuum brake booster checked at a service shop.
If these malfunctions occur, the vehicle must be towed (see subsection 1.6.8).
Battery Discharge Warning Light
This light coming on indicates that the battery is discharging. If the light comes on while driving, the battery charging system is faulty.
The engine ignition system will continue to operate until the battery is fully discharged.
Turn off the air conditioner, radio, fan, etc., and go to the nearest service station for assistance.
* Do not drive with a broken or loose drive belt.
Oil Pressure Warning Light
This light coming on indicates that the engine oil pressure is below normal.
If the light comes on while driving, reduce speed, stop on the shoulder, and stop the engine immediately. Call a dealer service shop
or the nearest service station for assistance.
The oil pressure warning light may flicker or come on at engine idle, or come on during hard engine braking. If the light goes off when the accelerator pedal is pressed lightly, there is no cause for concern.
The oil pressure warning light may come on if the engine oil level is too low. However, the oil level cannot be judged from the light; it must be checked only with the dipstick.
Note: Do not drive when the oil pressure warning light is on. Driving safety is not affected by this condition, but the engine will be damaged.
Engine Control System Warning Light (for 4E-FE, 4A-FE, 7A-FE engines)
If this light comes on while driving, contact a dealer service shop or the nearest service station as soon as possible for inspection or repair.
Fuel Level Warning Light
The light comes on when the fuel tank is nearly empty. Refuel the tank as soon as possible.
ABS Warning Light
Illumination of this lamp indicates a malfunction in the anti-lock braking system (ABS). If this lamp comes on while driving, contact a dealer service center as soon as possible.
The lamp illuminates when the ignition key is turned to the ON position, but it should go off after 3 seconds.
If this lamp illuminates while the brake warning indicator is not on, the brake system is functioning normally, but the ABS is not preventing wheel lock-up during braking.
The door ajar warning lamp is on, indicating that a door is not fully closed.
The lamp turns off after the passenger doors and the tailgate are securely closed.
Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Warning Indicator
This indicator illuminates when the ignition key is turned to the ACC or ON position. After 6 seconds, the indicator light goes off. This indicates that the Supplemental Restraint System (airbag system) is functioning properly.
If either of the two conditions listed below exists, the SRS warning indicator light will illuminate, indicating a malfunction of the airbag sensor, an open circuit, or another fault. In this case, contact a service center immediately.
If the indicator does not illuminate when the ignition key is turned to the ACC or ON position, or if it remains constantly on, contact a service center immediately.
The indicator illuminates while driving.
Fuel Filter Warning Lamp (for vehicles with diesel engine)
This indicates that condensed water has accumulated in the fuel filter to a specified level.
If the filter lamp illuminates, drain the water immediately.
* Do not drive after the fuel filter warning has activated. Prolonged driving with water accumulation will damage the fuel injection pump.
Buzzer
The buzzer sounds if the driver's door is open, the ignition key is in the LOCK position, and the headlights are on. If the key is removed from the lock, the buzzer will continue to sound while the headlights remain on. Checking the Maintenance Reminder Indicators (except the fuel reserve warning lamp)
PROCEDURE
1. Apply the parking brake.
2. Open one of the side doors or the tailgate.
3. Close the door. The door ajar warning lamp should go off.
4. Turn the ignition key to the ACC position. The SRS warning indicator should illuminate and go off after 6 seconds.
5. Turn the ignition key to the ON position. Do not start the engine.
All indicators should illuminate except the fuel reserve warning lamp and the SRS warning indicator. The ABS warning lamp should go off after 3 seconds.
6. If any indicator does not operate as described above, either the bulb has burned out or the warning circuit requires repair. Contact a service center immediately.
