Driving and manoeuvring aids - General recommendations

~4min read

Driving aids and manoeuvring aids can in no case replace the driver's vigilance.

The driver must comply with the Highway Code, remain in control of the vehicle at all times and be able to maintain that control at any moment. The driver must adapt their speed to weather and traffic conditions and to the condition of the road surface.

The driver is responsible for constantly monitoring traffic conditions, assessing the distance and relative speed of other vehicles, and anticipating their manoeuvres before signalling and changing lane.

These systems cannot overcome the laws of physics.

Driving aids

Hold the steering wheel with both hands, always use the exterior and interior mirrors, always keep your feet close to the pedals, and take a break every 2 hours.

Manoeuvring aids

The driver must always check the surroundings of the vehicle before and throughout the entire manoeuvre, in particular by using the mirrors.

Radar(s)

The operation of the radar(s), and the associated functions, may be disturbed by the build-up of dirt (e.g. mud, frost), in certain adverse weather conditions (e.g. very heavy rain, snow), or if the bumper is damaged.

If the paint on the front bumper is touched up, consult a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop; certain types of paint may disturb the operation of the radar(s).

Conduite

Driving aid camera

This camera, and the associated functions, may be disturbed or may not work if the area of the windscreen in front of the camera is dirty, fogged, iced, snow-covered, damaged or covered by a sticker.

In humid and cold weather, defog the windscreen regularly.

Poor visibility conditions (insufficient road lighting, heavy rain, dense fog, snowfall) and glare (lights of an oncoming vehicle, low sun, reflections on wet road, tunnel exit, alternating shadows and light) may also reduce detection performance.

If the windscreen is replaced, consult a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop to recalibrate the camera; otherwise the operation of the associated driving aids may be disturbed.

Other cameras

The images provided by the camera(s) shown on the touch screen or in the instrument panel may be distorted by the terrain.

The presence of shadowed areas, in sunlight or in insufficient lighting conditions, may darken the image and reduce contrast.

Obstacles may appear further away than they really are.

Sensors

The operation of the sensors, and the associated functions, may be disturbed by sound interference such as that produced by noisy vehicles and equipment (e.g. lorries, jackhammers), by the build-up of snow or dead leaves on the road, or if the bumpers and exterior mirrors are damaged.

When reverse gear is engaged, a long beep indicates that the sensors may be dirty.

An impact to the front or rear of the vehicle may cause the sensors to become misaligned, which the system does not always detect: distance measurements may then be inaccurate.

The sensors do not always detect obstacles that are too low (kerbs, bollards) or too thin (trees, posts, wire mesh fencing).

Certain obstacles located in the blind spots of the sensors may not be detected, or may no longer be detected during the manoeuvre.

Certain materials (fabrics) absorb sound waves: pedestrians may not be detected.

Maintenance

Clean the bumpers, exterior mirrors and camera lenses regularly.

When washing with a high-pressure jet, do not direct the lance within 30 cm of the radar, cameras or sensors.

Floor mats / Pedal pads

The use of floor mats or pedal pads not approved by CITROËN may interfere with the operation of the speed limiter or cruise control.

To avoid any risk of the pedals jamming:

- Make sure the floor mat is correctly secured.

- Never stack several floor mats.

Speed units

Make sure the speed unit shown on the instrument cluster (km/h or mph) matches the one used in the country where you are driving.

If it does not, with the vehicle stationary, set the display to the speed unit used locally.

If in doubt, consult a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop.
