Citroen C5 Aircross (2017- 2024) - Owner's Manual

Stop & Start

~4min read

The Stop & Start function puts the engine on standby – STOP mode – during vehicle stopping phases (e.g. at red lights, in traffic jams).

The engine restarts automatically – START mode – as soon as the driver shows the intention to move off.

The function is designed to reduce fuel consumption, pollutant gas emissions and noise levels when stationary, mainly in urban driving.

The function does not change the vehicle's features, in particular braking.

Deactivation / Reactivation

The function is activated by default when the ignition is switched on.

To deactivate / reactivate the function:

- The engine temperature must be within the normal operating range.

- The outside temperature must be between 0 and 35 ºC.

Engine stop (STOP mode)

The engine stops automatically as soon as the driver shows the intention to stop:

- With a manual gearbox: at a speed below 3 km/h, gear lever in neutral and clutch pedal released.

Timer

A timer accumulates the engine stop times during the journey. It is reset each time the ignition is switched on.

Special cases

The engine does not stop if the operating conditions are not met, and in the following cases:

- Steep gradient (uphill or downhill).

- Vehicle speed has not exceeded 10 km/h since the first start (with the key or the START/STOP button).

In these cases, this warning light flashes for a few seconds, then goes out.

After restarting the engine, STOP mode is unavailable until the vehicle has reached a speed of 8 km/h.

When manoeuvring to park, STOP mode is unavailable for a few seconds after reverse gear is disengaged or the steering wheel is turned.

Engine restart (START mode)

The engine restarts automatically as soon as the driver shows the intention to move off:

With a manual gearbox: clutch pedal fully depressed.

With an automatic gearbox:

- Selector lever in D or M mode: brake pedal released.

- Selector lever in N mode, brake pedal released: selector lever engaged in D or M.

- With a manual gearbox: vehicle speed exceeding 4 km/h.

- With an automatic gearbox:

  • Selector lever in N position and brake pedal released, vehicle speed exceeding 1 km/h.
  • Adaptive cruise control function deactivated.

In these cases, this warning light flashes for a few seconds, then goes out.
