Engine Installation
INSTALLATION
PROCEDURE
1. Inspect the powertrain mount condition. Replace any defective components.
For the inspection procedures for the active hydraulic mount control system, refer to the applicable Sections of this Group.
2. On models with an MT, inspect the clutch components (it is recommended to replace the entire assembly) (refer to Clutch and Driveshafts Group) and apply high-temperature grease to the pilot bearing. Install the flywheel and clutch assembly components to the engine (refer to Clutch and Driveshafts Group).
3. On models with an AT, inspect the seals and bushings of the torque converter, lightly apply grease to the torque converter hub and seal lips. Install the drive plate.
4. Carefully connect the transaxle to the engine, install and tighten the mounting bolts to the specified torque (refer to Transmission Group). On models with an AT, install and tighten the torque converter mounting bolts.
5. Raise the vehicle to a sufficient height and position the powertrain assembly under it. Move the hoist/A-frame beams to the working position and connect the lifting slings to the engine/transaxle lifting eyes, after passing them through the engine compartment opening.
6. Lift the powertrain assembly into its normal position and install the powertrain mount brackets. Insert the rubber mounts into the brackets and loosely install the through bolts/stud nuts.
7. Install the subframe, aligning it with the body according to the alignment marks made during removal. Install the fasteners and tighten them to the specified torque (refer to Specifications in the Transmission Group).
8. Fully tighten the through bolts/stud nuts of the mount brackets.
Failure to tighten the powertrain mount fasteners to the specified torque will result in excessive vibration during engine operation.
9. Disconnect the lifting slings from the lifting eyes.
10. In the reverse order of removal, install the remaining components.
11. Fill the engine with coolant and engine oil, and fill the transaxle (refer to Maintenance and Adjustments Group).
12. Start the engine and check for proper operation and leaks. Turn the ignition off and check the fluid levels. Install the hood. Road test the vehicle. On models equipped with A/C, have the A/C system evacuated and recharged at a qualified repair shop.
