Circuit Breakers

~1min read

Circuit breakers are used to protect components of the vehicle electrical system such as the airbag module resistors, the power window/sunroof motors, and similar components.

On some models, circuit breakers reset automatically after they trip. If the overload that caused the circuit breaker to open is not intermittent, inspect the affected circuit immediately. After the fault is corrected, the circuit breaker returns to normal operation. In some cases, the circuit breaker must be reset manually after the cause of the overload has been eliminated.

To reset the circuit breaker, disconnect the negative battery cable.

If the vehicle is equipped with an audio system that has an anti-theft code, make sure you have the correct code to reactivate the audio system before disconnecting the battery!
Remove the circuit breaker, insert a thin rod into the designated hole in the housing, and push it in until it clicks. Then check the continuity between the circuit breaker terminals with an ohmmeter, and only after that install it.
