Ignition Switch and Steering Column Lock Functional Check

~1min read

The vehicles covered by this Manual are equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). Before performing any work near the airbag module, steering column or instrument panel, disconnect the SRS to avoid injury from accidental deployment (refer to Section Airbags - General Information). SRS circuit wiring is easily identified by its yellow insulation.

Remove the steering column covers and knee bolster (refer to Body Section).
INSPECTION
PROCEDURE

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable first, then the positive cable.

If the vehicle's audio system is equipped with an anti-theft code, make sure you have the correct code to activate the audio system before disconnecting the battery!
2. Remove the lower instrument panel section on the driver's side (refer to Body Section). Following the wiring harness from the ignition switch down along the steering column to the left junction block, disconnect the electrical connector.
3. Check the connector for continuity between the contact terminals in each ignition key position.

4. При выявлении нарушений в распределении проводимости замените выключатель.

4. If any continuity faults are found, replace the ignition switch.
5. Make sure the lock cylinder fits tightly in all key positions and that the markings are correctly positioned. Replace a worn lock.
