Ignition Switch and Steering Column Lock Replacement
Ignition Switch
PROCEDURE
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable first, then the positive cable.
If the vehicle is equipped with a radio with an anti-theft code, make sure you have the correct code to activate the audio system before disconnecting the battery!
2. Remove the upper and lower steering column shrouds (refer to Body section).
3. Insert the key into the lock and turn it to the LOCK position.

4. Remove the two mounting screws and remove the switch assembly from the steering column.
Lock Cylinder
PROCEDURE
1. Remove the upper and lower steering column shrouds and the lower instrument panel trim (refer to Body section).
2. Loosen the steering column mounting nuts and lower the column. On vehicles so equipped, disconnect the starter immobilizer assembly wiring connectors.

3. The lock assembly is secured to the column by two shear-head bolts, which must be drilled out (use a 4.8 mm drill bit).
4. Loosen the clamp and remove the lock cylinder assembly from the steering column. On vehicles so equipped, remove the starter immobilizer unit from the old cylinder and install it on the new cylinder.
If the starter immobilizer device is replaced for any reason, the powertrain control module (PCM) must be reprogrammed at a dealership service facility.
5. Position the new lock cylinder in its original location (without the key) and tighten the new mounting bolts securely.
6. Insert the key into the cylinder and check that the assembly operates correctly.
7. Tighten the mounting bolts until the heads shear off. On vehicles so equipped, connect the wiring to the starter immobilizer device.
8. Install the remaining components in the reverse order of removal.
9. Finally, connect the battery (positive cable first, then negative).
