Irregular Tyre Wear

On the front wheels, slightly greater wear on the tyre shoulders compared with the centre of the tread is normal. Due to the road camber, the wear on the tyre shoulder facing the road centre (left wheel: outer, right wheel: inner) may be more pronounced.
Uneven tyre wear is mostly the result of incorrect tyre pressure (too low or too high), and may be caused by faults in wheel alignment or wheel balance, or by defective shock absorbers or rims.
Above all, ensure the correct tyre pressure, and check it at least every four weeks.
Check the tyre pressure only when the tyres are cold. The tyre pressure increases as the tyres heat up during fast driving. Nevertheless, it is completely wrong to release air from heated tyres.
If the tyre pressure is too high, the centre of the tread wears more, because the high internal pressure makes the tyre bulge more at the tread.
If the tyre pressure is too low, the tread rests more heavily on the tyre shoulders and the centre of the tread bulges inward. This causes greater wear on the tyre shoulders.

Sawtooth-shaped tread wear is generally caused by overloading the vehicle.
Incorrect wheel alignment and imbalance each produce typical tyre wear patterns, which are referred to in fault diagnosis.
