Installation of Steering Knuckle

~1min read

PROCEDURE

1. If the assembly was disassembled, install the hub onto the steering knuckle (this work must be performed in a repair shop).
2. Lightly lubricate the splines of the outer drive shaft stub axle with special grease. Insert the stub axle through the hole in the hub while installing the steering knuckle in its original position.
3. Connect the upper part of the knuckle to the ball joint of the upper control arm (see Removal and Installation of Front Upper Control Arm). Tighten the ball joint stud nut to the specified torque and secure it with a new cotter pin.

Tighten the nut to the minimum specified torque, then continue tightening until the nut slots align with the cotter pin hole.
4. Connect the lower ball joint of the knuckle to the lower control arm (see Removal and Installation of Front Lower Control Arm). Tighten the castellated nut to the specified torque and secure it with a new cotter pin (see Note in the previous paragraph).
5. Install the brake disc, tightening the mounting screws securely.
6. Install the anchor plate and caliper, tightening the component fasteners to the specified torque (see Brake System chapter). Secure the flexible brake hose to the support bracket on the steering knuckle assembly. Tighten the mounting bolts securely.
7. Screw the hub nut onto the drive shaft stub axle and tighten it securely.
8. Install the wheel (and wheel cover, if equipped), lower the vehicle to the ground, and tighten the wheel nuts to the specified torque (see Specifications in the Routine Maintenance and Adjustment chapter).
9. Tighten the hub nut to the specified torque (see Specifications in the Clutch and Drive Shafts chapter).
