Engine Mounting Components
Condition Inspection
PROCEDURE
1. If more working space is needed, raise the front of the vehicle and support it on safety stands.
2. Check the engine mounts for cracks, hardening, or separation of the rubber from the metal base. If any of these defects is found, replace the mount.
3. Check the tightness of all threaded mount connections. Where possible, check the tightening torque with a torque wrench.
4. Check the mounts for wear. To do this, pry the mount with a large screwdriver, pry bar or crowbar and move it to check for free play. If this cannot be checked this way, ask an assistant to rock the power unit back and forth and from side to side while you observe the mounts. Slight play is acceptable in new mounts; excessive play in the mounts clearly indicates accelerated wear. If large play is found in the mounts, first check the tightness of the bolts and nuts, then replace worn parts following the procedure described below.
Right Mount
PROCEDURE
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Place a stand under the engine, placing a wooden block or board between the stand platform and the engine beforehand. Raise the stand so that the platform supports the weight of the power unit.
3. Remove the nut and the clamp bolt, then remove the mounting bolts and take out the right engine mount from the engine compartment. Remove the rubber cushions installed on both sides of the mount bracket on the body side.
4. If necessary, remove the bolts and detach the right engine mount bracket from the engine.
5. Carefully inspect all mount components for signs of wear or damage. Replace parts as necessary.
6. To install the right mount, attach the bracket to the engine by tightening the bolts (if the bracket was removed), then tighten the bolts to the specified torque.
7. Install the rubber cushions on the mount bracket on the body side, making sure the cushion studs engage the corresponding holes in the bracket. Install the mount on the bracket and tighten the mounting bolts to the specified torque.
8. Insert the mount clamp bolt and tighten the bolt nut to the specified torque. Remove the support stand from under the engine.
9. Connect the battery negative terminal. Left mount
PROCEDURE
1. Remove the battery and the battery tray.
2. Place a stand under the engine, placing a wooden block or board between the stand platform and the engine beforehand. Raise the stand so that the platform supports the weight of the power unit.
3. Loosen and remove the mount clamp bolt, then remove the three mounting bolts securing the mount to the transmission case and move the mount aside. Remove the rubber cushions installed on both sides of the bracket. If necessary, remove the bracket bolts from the engine compartment side.
4. Loosen and remove the mount clamp bolt, then remove the three mounting bolts securing the mount to the transmission case and move the mount aside. Remove the rubber cushions installed on both sides of the bracket. If necessary, remove the bracket bolts from the engine compartment side.
5. Carefully inspect all mount components for signs of wear or damage. Replace parts as necessary.
6. To install the left mount, secure the bracket by tightening the bolts (if the bracket was removed), then tighten the bolts to the specified torque.
7. Install the rubber cushions on the bracket, making sure the cushion studs engage the corresponding holes in the bracket. Move the mount back into position. Install the mounting bolts securing the mount to the transmission case and tighten them to the specified torque.
8. Insert the mount clamp bolt and tighten the bolt nut to the specified torque.
9. Remove the support stand from under the engine. Install the battery tray and the battery.
Front Mount – Sedan and Hatchback Models (with Manual Transmission)
PROCEDURE
1. Apply the parking brake, raise the front of the vehicle and support it on stands. Disconnect the battery negative terminal. To improve working space, remove the screws and the lower engine and transmission splash shields.
2. Mark the position of the front mount clamp bolt on the bracket so that the bolt can be installed in the same position during assembly.
3. Place a support stand under the engine, with a wooden block or board placed between the stand platform and the engine. Raise the stand so that the platform supports the weight of the powertrain.
4. Remove the nut and remove the mount clamp bolt.
5. Remove the bolts and detach the bracket from the front of the engine.
6. Carefully inspect all mount components for signs of wear or damage. Replace parts as necessary. If the rubber cushion needs to be replaced, press the cushion out of the center member. Install a new cushion after wetting it with soapy water (or detergent) to ease installation.
7. Install the mount bracket on the engine and tighten the mounting bolts to the specified torque.
8. Insert the mounting through bolt and tighten the nut slightly. Position the power unit so that the through bolt aligns exactly with the mark made before removal, then tighten the through bolt to the specified torque.
9. Remove the support stand from under the transmission case.
10. Install the splash shields, tighten the screws securely, lower the vehicle and connect the battery negative terminal.
Front Mount – Station Wagon Models (with Manual Transmission)
PROCEDURE
1. Perform steps 1–4.
2. Remove the two bolts and detach the mount assembly from the center member.
3. If necessary, remove the bolts and detach the mount bracket from the front of the engine.
4. Carefully inspect all mount components for signs of wear or damage. Replace parts as necessary.
5. Install the bracket on the engine (if removed) and tighten the bolts to the specified torque.
6. Install the mount on the center member and tighten the bolts to the specified torque.
7. Insert the mount clamp bolt and tighten the nut slightly.
8. Position the powertrain so that the clamp bolt aligns exactly with the mark made before removal, then tighten the clamp bolt to the specified torque.
9. Remove the support stand from under the transmission.
10. Install the splash shields, tighten the screws securely, lower the vehicle and connect the battery.
Rear Mount
PROCEDURE
1. Apply the parking brake, raise the front of the vehicle and support it on safety stands. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Remove the nut and remove the rear mount clamp bolt.
3. Remove the rear mount bracket bolts and remove the bracket by manipulating it. Remove the stopper ring installed between the bracket and the mount.
4. Remove the two bolts and detach the mount assembly from the center member.
5. Carefully inspect all mount components for signs of wear or damage. Replace parts as necessary.
6. To install, position the rear mount on the member and tighten the mounting bolts to the specified torque.
7. Install the stopper ring in place, then install the rear mount bracket and tighten the mounting bolts to the specified torque.
8. Align the rear mount with the bracket, insert the clamp bolt and tighten the bolt nut to the specified torque.
9. Remove the support stands and connect the battery negative terminal.
