PROCEDURE

Right oil seal (timing chain cover oil seal)

1. Remove the crankshaft pulley.

2. Carefully pry out the oil seal with a large screwdriver, taking care not to damage the oil pump gears or the cover.

3. Clean the seal housing and remove all burrs and sharp edges that could be the main cause of seal failure.

4. Apply a thin layer of multi-purpose grease to the sealing lip of the new seal. Carefully install the seal in place with the lip facing inward, taking care not to damage the sealing edges. Press the seal in with a installation tool until it bottoms out against the shoulder on the outer edge of the seal. The diameter of the installation tool must be such that it contacts the outer edge of the seal during installation. Do not damage the sealing lip during installation.

5. Remove any grease residue, then install the crankshaft pulley.

Rear oil seal (flywheel / torque converter drive plate oil seal)

6. Remove the flywheel (or torque converter drive plate).

7. С помощью большой отвертки с плоским лезвием подденьте сальник за внутреннюю

7. Using a large flat-blade screwdriver, pry the seal out by its inner edge and evenly remove the seal from the cylinder block, taking care not to damage the crankshaft and cylinder block surfaces.

8. Clean the seal installation area and remove all burrs and sharp edges that could cause seal failure.

9. Apply a thin layer of multi-purpose grease to the sealing lip of the new seal and to the crankshaft sealing surface. Correctly orient the seal relative to the crankshaft case.

10. Using your hands only, without any tools, carefully slide the sealing lip of the seal onto the crankshaft sealing surface. Press the seal in squarely until the shoulder on the outer edge of the seal bottoms out against the ring-shaped boss on the crankshaft case / cylinder block. If necessary, the seal may be seated in place by light taps with a soft-faced hammer.

11. Remove any excess grease, then install the flywheel (or torque converter drive plate).
