Flywheel (or torque converter drive plate)
Removal
PROCEDURE
Flywheel – vehicles with manual transmission1. Remove the transmission, then remove the clutch assembly.

2. Lock the flywheel from rotating by its ring gear using the special tool (shown by arrow). An angle bracket may also be used to lock the flywheel; its end contacts a ring gear tooth and it is secured with a bolt in a cylinder block hole.
3. Loosen and remove the flywheel mounting bolts. Take care not to drop the flywheel, as this part is heavy.
4. If necessary, remove the plate from the cylinder block, marking its orientation beforehand. If the locating pins of the plate are loosened, remove the pins and store them together with the plate. Torque converter drive plate – vehicles with automatic transmission
5. Remove the transmission.
6. Lock the drive plate (see step 2).
7. Unscrew the drive plate mounting bolts and remove the drive plate retaining plate.
8. Remove the spacer installed between the drive plate and the crankshaft.
9. If necessary, remove the plate from the cylinder block, marking its orientation beforehand. If the locating pins of the plate are loosened, remove the pins and store them together with the plate. Inspection
PROCEDURE
1. On vehicles with manual transmission, check the flywheel contact surface for the clutch disc for deep grooves, and check the ring gear teeth for chips and wear. If the working surface shows cracks, deep scoring or other damage, replace the flywheel. The damaged surface may be resurfaced; however, consult a Nissan service center or a qualified specialist before doing so.
2. On vehicles with automatic transmission, carefully check the torque converter drive plate for signs of deformation. Also check for fine cracks starting at the bolt holes or cracks radiating from the center toward the outer edge. Check the ring gear teeth for chips and signs of wear. If any signs of wear or damage are found, replace the drive plate.
Installation
PROCEDURE
