Oil cooler components

1. Oil filter

2. Oil filter housing

3. O-ring

4. Oil cooler

5. O-ring

6. Centering bolt

Removal

PROCEDURE

1. The oil cooler (if equipped) is mounted on the oil filter housing, which is screwed into the rear of the cylinder block.

2. To access the oil cooler, apply the parking brake, raise the front of the vehicle and support it on stands. Disconnect the battery negative terminal.

3. Drain the coolant from the engine. Alternatively, pinch off the hoses near the oil cooler fittings. In this case, some coolant will be lost after the hoses are disconnected.

4. Remove the clamps and disconnect the hoses from the oil cooler.

5. Mark the relative position of the oil cooler and the oil filter housing with paint or a marker.

6. Place a suitable container under the oil cooler and unscrew the oil cooler bolt. Wait until the oil stops dripping into the container, then remove the oil cooler from the engine. Remove the O-rings from the housing and from the oil cooler bolt. These O-rings must be replaced.

7. Inspect the oil cooler for damage, blow out the coolant fittings and make sure they are clean. Replace the oil cooler if damaged or if the internal passages are clogged.

Installation

PROCEDURE

1. Install new O-rings on the housing and on the oil cooler mounting bolt.

2. Install the oil cooler on the oil filter housing, align the marks and screw in the bolt. Tighten the bolt to the specified torque.

3. Connect the hoses and secure them with clamps.

4. Lower the vehicle from the stands. Restore the coolant and oil levels. Start the engine and check for leaks.
