Removal and Installation of Pinion Shaft Seal A. APPLY ANHYDROUS CALCIUM-BASE GREASE TO THE CONTACT SURFACES OF THE PINION SHAFT AND SEAL.

B. THE SEAL MUST BE FLUSH WITH THE HOUSING END FACE.

PROCEDURE.

1. Turn pinion shaft 5 so that guide plate 10 is in the center of the housing window.

2. Mark the position of the pinion shaft flat relative to the housing.

Guide plate 10 must be located in the center of the housing window.

Install or connect

1. Pinion shaft. The position of the pinion shaft flat must match the mark on the housing. Plate 10 will then be located

in the center of the housing window, as marked on the steering gear housing.
