Inspection of Distributor Cap (Conventional Ignition System)

~1min read

PROCEDURE

Remove cap 1 from the distributor, wipe off dust and inspect it. The cap must be dry. Rotor 2 must move freely inside the cap without sticking. Terminals of the high-voltage leads must be clean, with no signs of corrosion or burning. Contacts on the inside of the cap must also show no corrosion or burning. The cap must have no chips or cracks and no signs of arcing to the distributor body. The cap is not repairable; if it has at least one of the defects listed above, replace it.
