Checking Ignition Coil (Conventional Ignition System)
PROCEDURE

Checking Ignition Coil Secondary Winding Resistance 1 – ignition coil; 2 – terminal "1"; 3 – terminal "4"; 4 – terminal "15"
The ignition coil rarely fails. Check the coil with an ohmmeter by measuring the resistance of the primary and secondary windings in the following sequence: PROCEDURE 1. Disconnect the lead from the negative battery terminal. 2. Disconnect the leads from the coil. 3. Inspect the coil. If it has cracks, replace the coil. 4. To check primary winding resistance, connect the ohmmeter to terminals 2 and 4. Resistance should be within 0.52–0.76 Ohm.
5. To check secondary winding resistance, connect the ohmmeter to terminals 3 and 2. Resistance should be within 2.5–3.5 kOhm. 6. If the resistance differs from the specified value, replace the coil. Note that coil defects do not always appear when the coil is cold, so if a coil is suspected of being faulty, it may be checked by replacing it with a new one.
