Removal and Installation of Ignition Distributor (Conventional Ignition System)

~1min read

Removal PROCEDURE 1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. 2. Disconnect the high-tension leads from distributor cap 1 (see Fig. Ignition Distributor). 3. Disconnect the vacuum hose from vacuum advance unit 19. 4. Disconnect the low-tension lead from the side of the distributor. 5. Remove distributor cap 1 after first removing shield 21.

6. Set the No. 1 cylinder piston to TDC (see step 5 of subsection 2.2.1 for engines with displacement of 1.1 and 1.3 L, or step 9 of subsection 2.2.2 for engines with displacement of 1.6 L). The rotor must stop opposite the mark (recess in the housing) of the distributor, as shown in the illustration. 7. Remove bolts 20 (see illustration Ignition Distributor) (on engines with displacement of 1.6 L, remove the distributor holder mounting bolt) and remove the ignition distributor. Installation PROCEDURE 1. Install the ignition distributor in the reverse order of removal. When installing, the crankshaft must be in the position where the No. 1 cylinder piston is at TDC.

2. Turn the rotor so that it is positioned opposite the mark on the distributor housing. 3. On an engine with displacement of 1.6 L, turn the oil pump drive shaft so that the lug on the shaft is parallel to the engine crankshaft. 4. If after installing the distributor the rotor is not opposite the mark on the housing, turn the distributor and only then tighten the distributor mounting bolts. 5. After installing the distributor, adjust the ignition timing advance.
