Checking brake booster
Check the brake booster function if the pedal effort is unusually high to achieve adequate braking effect.
With the engine off, press the brake pedal down firmly at least 5 times, then start the engine with the pedal depressed. The brake pedal should now noticeably give way under foot. The brake system is then in order.
Otherwise, disconnect the vacuum hose from the brake booster and start the engine. Place a finger on the end of the vacuum hose to check whether vacuum is generated with the engine running.
If there is no vacuum: check the vacuum hose for leaks and damage, and replace if necessary. Tighten all clamps securely.
Diesel engine: disconnect the vacuum hose from the vacuum pump and check with a finger whether vacuum is present at the hose connection.
