Always apply the parking brake before leaving the vehicle. When the parking brake is applied with the ignition switch in the "ON" or "START" position, the parking brake indicator light illuminates in the instrument cluster. Before driving, make sure the parking brake is fully released and the indicator light is off.
To apply the parking brake, pull the lever up until it stops.

To release the parking brake, pull the parking brake lever up slightly and press the button on the end of the handle. Then, while holding the button, lower the lever down.

Driving with the parking brake applied will cause premature wear of the brake pads.
