Immobilizer (Engine Start Prevention System)

The immobilizer is designed to minimize the likelihood of your vehicle being stolen.

EMERGENCY OPERATION PROCEDURE

If the immobilizer indicator light flashes for 5 seconds after the ignition key is turned to the "ON" position, this indicates that the engine start prevention system is malfunctioning. You will not be able to start the engine without performing the emergency key operation procedure. The following steps must be performed to start the engine in emergency mode (the digits 0, 1, 2, 3 are given as an example for the password).

You can obtain the emergency operation password when you take delivery of your new vehicle. If you do not have the password, contact your authorized Hyundai dealer.

PROCEDURE

1. To enter the password, turn the ignition key to the "ON" position and then to the "OFF" position according to the digits, while the immobilizer indicator light flashes.
For example, to enter the digit "1", turn the ignition key in this sequence once; for the digit "2", twice; and so on. For the digit "0", turn the ignition key in this sequence ten times.
2. Wait 3–10 seconds.
3. Enter the remaining digits of the password by repeating steps 1 and 2.
4. After all four digits have been entered successfully, turn the ignition key to the "ON" position and make sure the immobilizer indicator light is on. You must start the engine within 30 seconds from this point. It will not be possible to start the engine after 30 seconds have passed.

If the engine stalls during emergency operation, you can restart the engine within 8 seconds without performing the emergency operation procedure again.

5. If the immobilizer indicator light flashes for 5 seconds, you must repeat the emergency operation procedure from the beginning.

If you fail to successfully complete the emergency operation procedure three times in a row, wait approximately one hour before attempting the procedure again.

If you have successfully completed the emergency operation procedure but still cannot start the engine, have your vehicle towed to an authorized Hyundai dealer.
