Jump starting the engine from another vehicle's battery
Jump starting with jumper cables can be dangerous if it is not done correctly. To avoid personal injury or damage to the vehicle or battery, follow the procedure below.
Keep all sources of flame or sparks well away from the battery. The battery produces hydrogen gas, which can explode if exposed to flame or sparks. Do not attempt to jump start if the discharged battery is frozen or if the electrolyte level is low; the battery may rupture or explode.
Jump starting procedure using a battery from another vehicle:
PROCEDURE
1. Make sure the auxiliary battery is 12 V and that its negative terminal is grounded.
2. Check the electrolyte level in each battery cell.
3. If the auxiliary battery is in another vehicle, do not let the vehicles touch.
4. Turn off all unnecessary electrical loads.
5. Connect all cables in the exact sequence shown in Figure 120. First connect one end of the first cable to the positive (+) terminal of the discharged battery, then connect the other end of the same cable to the positive (+) terminal of the auxiliary battery. Next, connect one end of the second cable to the negative (–) terminal of the auxiliary battery, then connect the other end to a grounded, stationary metal point (for example, the engine mounting bracket) away from the battery. Do not connect the cable to moving parts or near them, as they could be damaged when the engine starts. Do not connect the negative (–) terminal of the auxiliary battery to the negative (–) terminal of the discharged battery. Do not allow the cables to contact anything other than the correct battery terminals or proper ground. Do not lean over the battery when connecting the cables.

6. Start the engine of the vehicle using the auxiliary battery and let it run at 2000 min⁻¹. Then start the engine of the vehicle with the discharged battery.
If the cause of battery discharge is not obvious, for example, the headlights were accidentally left on, you should have the vehicle checked by an authorized Hyundai dealer.
