Child Seats

~2min read

When transporting children in the vehicle, always seat them in the rear seat and secure them to minimize the risk of injury in a traffic accident, sudden braking or cornering. Traffic accident statistics show that children restrained by an appropriate device are safer in the rear seat than in the front. Older children must be secured with the vehicle's seat belts. Install the child seat in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions for that device.

CHILD SEATS SHOULD BE INSTALLED IN THE REAR SEAT.

Installing a child carrier or child seat in the front seat is not permitted. If the front passenger airbag deploys in a traffic accident, it may seriously injure an infant or child sitting in a carrier or child seat.

Children who have outgrown child seats should be seated in the rear seats and secured with the lap and shoulder seat belt.

Always check that the shoulder portion of the lap and shoulder belt is positioned at the middle of the shoulder and does not touch the neck. Moving the child closer to the center of the vehicle may help achieve better belt positioning.

The shoulder portion of the lap and shoulder belt and the rear seat center lap belt must always be positioned as low as possible and, where possible, as snug as possible.

If the child seat cannot be properly secured with the seat belt, it is recommended to use a booster cushion under the child seat to raise the child's seating height so that the child can be properly secured with the seat belt.

Do not allow a child to stand on the seat or be held on the lap.
Child seats that attach to the seatback are not permitted; such devices do not provide the necessary protection in the event of a traffic accident.

Holding a child on your lap while the vehicle is moving is not permitted. The child may suffer serious or even fatal injury in the event of a traffic accident or sudden braking. Your arms cannot replace a child seat, even if you are wearing the seat belt.
