Engine

Check/remove and install vacuum pump

~1min read
Diesel engine

On the diesel engine, the vacuum pump is located on the side of the cylinder head and is driven by the camshaft. The pump generates the vacuum required for the brake booster, because unlike the petrol engine, the diesel engine does not have sufficient vacuum in the intake manifold.

Check
  • Pull off the vacuum line to the brake booster. To do so, loosen the hose clamp.

  • Connect a vacuum gauge to the vacuum pump and run the engine.

  • With the engine at operating temperature, the vacuum pump must build up a vacuum of at least 700 mbar within 3 seconds at 4000 rpm.

Removal
Unterdruckpumpe prüfen/aus- und einbauen

  • Unscrew the vacuum pump (1) with its 3 bolts (3) and remove it.

Installation
  • Bolt the vacuum pump (1) on with the sealing ring (2).

    Replace a damaged sealing ring.

  • Push the vacuum line on and secure it with the hose clamp.
