Luggage Compartment Lid Lock Release Cable

PROCEDURE

1. For the procedures to remove the luggage compartment lid latch and disconnect the release cable from it, refer to Luggage Compartment Lid Lock Latch and Cylinder Removal and Installation.

2. Inside the luggage compartment, remove the spare wheel, then remove the left side trim panel with the storage pocket to access the end of the fuel filler door release cable. Turn the cable end 1/4 turn and pull it out of the door assembly.

3. Remove the lower rear seat cushion (refer to Seat Removal and Installation). On Coupe models, also remove the rear seatback.
4. Using a trim tool, remove the driver side door sill trim plates (Coupe models have one door). On 4-cylinder models, remove the lower trim panel of the left center pillar.
5. Peel back the carpet to access the lock release cable. Release all intermediate cable routing clips.
6. Using a trim tool, open the upper cover of the lock cylinder in the remote release lever housing next to the driver seat. Insert the key into the lock and turn it sharply counterclockwise, then remove the key together with the cylinder from the assembly.
7. Remove the small plastic cover from the side of the remote release lever and loosen the bolt under it (use a socket wrench inserted through the hole for the lock cylinder). Slide the lever housing back to remove it from the bolt.

8. Turn the housing over and remove the cable sheath from its retainer, and the core end from the lever.

9. Tie a length of string to the end of the cable.
10. Pull the cable assembly into the luggage compartment until the string tied to its end becomes visible.
11. Tie the string to the end of the new cable and pull the assembly back into position, connecting it to the lever. Complete installation in the reverse order of removal.
