The vehicles covered in this Manual are equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). Before performing any work near the airbag module, steering column or instrument panel, disconnect the SRS to avoid injury from accidental deployment (refer to the Electrical Systems Section). SRS wiring can be easily identified by its yellow insulation.

PROCEDURE

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

If the vehicle is equipped with an audio system with an anti-theft code, make sure you have the correct code to activate the audio system before disconnecting the battery!
2. Remove the instrument panel trim panels (refer to Removal and Installation of Instrument Panel Trim Panels) and the center console assembly (refer to Removal and Installation of Center Console).
3. Remove the instrument cluster (refer to the Electrical Systems Section) and the glove box (refer to Removal and Installation of Instrument Panel Trim Panels).
4. On vehicles so equipped, disconnect the wiring and remove the passenger airbag (refer to the Electrical Systems Section).
5. Remove the radio assembly from the center of the instrument panel (refer to the Electrical Systems Section).

6. Remove the knee bolster with reinforcing rib (refer to Removal and Installation of Instrument Panel Trim Panels), then remove the steering column mounting bolts and lower the steering column to allow removal of the instrument panel main section.

7. Remove the coin holder from the bottom of the driver-side air duct deflector and remove the two mounting screws located beneath it. Release the upper and center clips and remove the deflector, disconnecting the sunroof motor and thermostat wiring (on vehicles so equipped).

9. When removing the instrument panel main section, disconnect the multiple electrical connectors. It is recommended to label them beforehand.

10. Remove all bolts securing the instrument panel main section to the body. Lift the panel (in addition to the bolts, it is secured at the center by three plastic pins) and, separating it from the windshield, remove it from the vehicle through the driver's door.

11. Installation is the reverse of removal.
